Online Gambling Entrepreneurs Rich List
Online Gambling Entrepreneurs Rich List By: Joan Peppin, Wednesday May 2nd 20120 Comments   Email   PrintThe Sunday Times annual Rich List is out. It is a much awaited publication because it enables us to see who are the wealthiest in the country and how much they have gained or lost compared to the previous year. The list profiles the top 1,000 wealthiest people in Britain and Ireland. This year’s list has been compiled by Philip Beresford and is based on identifiable wealth, which includes property, land, shares in public companies, racehorses and art. A notable exclusion from the list of assets is bank account because this information is not in the public domain. Therefore the actual wealth will be greater than that reported in the Rich List, but one can assume that this would not make significant difference to the rankings. Apart from the main list, there are categories and sub categories based on industry. The one that interests us is the sub category of online gambling entrepreneurs that falls in the category of the digital and online industry. The fact that there is an online gambling category speaks well for the industry in Britain. One of the reasons for the growth of online gambling in the United Kingdom has been the fact that it was one of the first leading nations to legalize and regulate online gambling. The first place in the online gambling sub category goes to the father and daughter duo of Peter and Denise Coates, who are the owners of Bet365. Their wealth stands at over £750 million, but the more amazing aspect is that it has increased by £250 million from last year. It clearly shows that Bet365 has bucked the recessionary trend prevalent in Britain and the world. The Coates stand in the 90th place in the overall national list, which is again remarkable because the online gambling industry is up against brick and mortal industries of long standing. It has been a great year for Denise Coates personally because she had earlier made it to the Queen’s honor list. Second in the online gambling sub category are the duo of Russ DeLeon and Ruth Parasol, the founders of PartyGaming. Their wealth has been estimated at £733 million. Though this puts them almost on the same level at the Coates, their worry would be that they are down £99 million. Vikrant Bhargava, also associated with PartyGaming, is in fourth place with a net worth of £230 million. Meanwhile in the third place is another duo, Peter and Fred Done with an asset count of £660 million. The Dones own Betfred, which has been in the news for buying the Tote. Victor Chandler is in 5th place with a fortune of £160 million. The members of the online gambling operator Betfair are next. 6th and 7th on the online gambling list are the founders Andrew Black and Ed Wray with assets of £125 million and £132 million. Richard Koch of Betfair has been estimated at £92 million. The online gambling list ends with Phil Cronin from Tombola who has increased his fortune by £27 million reaching £82 million this year.
